Australian footballer Josh Cavallo is making history (AGAIN) as the first gay footballer to judge the reality series.

Cavallo first made headlines when he came out as gay in October of 2021. The male football league is known to be extremely homophobic, and the 23-year-old became the game’s only openly queer top footballer.

“It’s been a journey to get to this point in my life, but i couldn’t be happier with my decision to come out,” Cavallo said. “I have been fighting my sexuality for over 6 years now, and I am glad I can put that to rest.”

After coming out, Cavallo received a flood of supportive messages from his football community.

He may be a pro on the field, but does he have what it takes to judge the Australian version of television’s most famous drag competition shows? We will find out soon!

“As the only openly gay male professional footballer currently playing top-flight football in the world, I’m a big fan of embracing your true self, but for many in sport and the queer community this is really difficult to do,” Cavallo said in a statement.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race is so important, because it inspires queer people to be their authentic self, and allows drag to become more accepted and celebrated as it should be.”

Love, Simon actor Keiynan Lonsdale, singer/songwriter Adam Lambert, and New Zealand model Rachel Hunter will join the young athlete as guest judges. Michelle Visage and comedian Rhys Nicholson will also return as Drag Race judges.

RuPaul’s Drag Race: Down Under season three will premiere on July 28.
