It’s award season, baby!
The Recording Academy has finally announced the list of Grammy nominees, and it is packed with LGBTQ+ icons. Of course, Queen Bee Beyoncé is leading the pack with nine nominations, tying her with her husband Jay-Z for the most Grammy nominations by any artist. Jay-Z received five this year, which puts them both at 88 total nominations.

Meanwhile, queer folk-rock singer Brandi Carlile swept the board with seven nominations, the most she has ever received in one year. She is tied with Adele; while Harry Styles, Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, Future, producer The-Dream, and mastering engineer Randy Merrill all earned six.

Brandi Carlisle
Carlisle is a lesbian artist who has been conquering the Grammy Awards since 2019. She currently has 25 total nominations and six wins. This year, she is nominated for album of the year for In These Silent Days and record of the year for “You and Me on the Rock” featuring Lucius. She also has nominations for Rock Performance and Rock Song as well as Americana Performance and Album, and American Roots Song categories.

Steve Lacy
The alt-R&B artist scored big in the two top categories: Record and Song of the year for his hit song “Bad Habit.” He has four total nominations, including the Pop Solo Performance and Progressive R&B Album categories. The 24-year-old has scored two previous nominations, once with his former band, The Internet, and another for his solo album Apollo XXI. Lacy is currently on a “Give You the World” tour, which is headed to Australia.

Sam Smith and Kim Petras – “Unholy”
Kim Petras has secured her first Grammy nomination! Though their hypnotizing track “Unholy” barely made the Grammy deadline, the duo was still able to snag a nomination for Best Pop Duo Performance. This is Smith’s seventh total nomination, but their first since they picked up six in 2015 for “Stay With Me” and In the Lonely Hour.

Anitta
We love to see LGBTQ+ artists winning, especially as they climb the ladder in the industry. Bisexual Brazillian singer Anitta has earned her first Grammy nom for Best New Artist.

Omar Apollo
Joining Anitta for Best New Artist is a singer-songwriter, Omar Apollo. Apollo rose to the charts in 2017 for his hit Spotify song “Ugotme.” The singer also has two Latin Grammy nominations under his belt from previous seasons.
