Discover the Daring Duets: What Songs Will Gaga and Phoenix Sing?
This highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 smash hit Joker brings back Joaquin Phoenix as the infamous villain and introduces us to his love interest, the equally unhinged Dr. Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn.
Musical Madness
Unlike its predecessor, this film promises to be a “musical thriller,” and the new trailer gives us a tantalizing taste of the madness to come. Phoenix and Gaga’s characters are seen singing and dancing together, bringing a unique twist to the dark world of Gotham. One standout moment shows the Joker crooning “For Once In My Life” by Stevie Wonder while in prison. Another scene features the dynamic duo singing “Get Happy” by Judy Garland.
Moonlit Dance and Dark Romance
The chemistry between Phoenix and Gaga is electric. They share a romantic dance under the moonlight on those iconic steps from the first film, followed by a steamy kiss. In another scene, Gaga, ever the diva, smears her lipstick into a sinister smile and adds blue clown makeup, mimicking the Joker’s look. “You can do anything you want, you’re Joker,” she tells him.
We’ve got chills!
A Musical Extravaganza
The first trailer hinted at a deep dive into the Joker and Harley Quinn’s complex relationship, and this new trailer builds on that promise. Variety reported that the film will be a jukebox musical with 15 reinterpretations of popular songs. The trailers have already treated us to classics like “What the World Needs Now Is Love” and “When You’re Smiling.”
Gaga has reportedly recorded over 20 songs for the film, including four originals and a duet with Phoenix reminiscent of her iconic “Shallow” performance with Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born.
