‘How I Met Your Father’ Has A Queer Main Character

Hulu

The How I Met Your Mother spin-off is almost here and it features queer storylines!

“In the near future, Sophie (Hilary Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father,” according to the official description of How I Met Your Father. “A story that catapults us back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”

The description also reveals Sophie’s friend, Ellen (Tien Tran), is queer. Ellen “just moved to New York from a small farming town after separating from her wife. Ellen’s more comfortable on an organic lettuce field than in a Brooklyn dive bar.”

While we don’t know too much about Ellen just yet, it’s exciting to see some representation.  This is in contrast to the original series which features legendary gay actor Neil Patrick Harris,  but his character was straight.
