“Those close to me are well aware, but it’s important to me to share publicly,” Josh Kiszka shared in a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday.
Following a set of proposed bills in Tennessee that will restrict LGBTQ+ rights, Greta Van Fleet frontman Josh Kiszka is speaking out about his sexuality. According to the singer, he has been in a same-sex relationship for the last eight years.
“Where I’ve settled a home in Tennessee, legislators are proposing bills that threaten the freedom of love. It’s imperative that I speak my truth for not only myself, but in hopes to change hearts, minds, and laws in Tennessee and beyond,” he wrote.
“These issues are especially close to my heart as I’ve been in a loving, same-sex relationship with my partner for the past 8 years. Those close to me are well aware, but it’s important to me to share publicly.”

Josh Kiszka is Pushing for Equality
Earlier this week, Kuszka shared a loving post for Pride month. The image shows the singer on stage as all the colors of the rainbow shine into the crowd. “Living is, in itself, a constant celebration of love and where there is love we must live on! And where there is not love we must provide it,” he wrote.

The “Highway Tune” singer then acknowledged the growth of the LGBTQ+ community over the years, but said there is still work to be done.

“The LGBTQ+ community is a cultural pillar, constantly championing positivity and acceptance through art, music, literature, film, and most importantly, legislation,” he continued.
Tennessee currently has the most active anti-LGBTQ+ laws than any other state in the U.S. Two of the three recent bills signed into law by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee attack the rights of the transgender community. Kiszka said he hopes by coming out to the world, he can make a difference in our fight for equality.
“The greatest mortal gift of all is our capacity to love and as we travel through time, may our greater understanding of the matter around and within us teach us to love ever deeper.”

Who is Greta Van Fleet
Greta Van Fleet is a rock band from Frankenmuth, Michigan. The group formed in 2012 and consists of Josh, his twin brother Jake, brother Sam, and Danny Wagner. They released their debut EP Black Smoke Rising in 2017 and their first studio album in 2018. They will release their third album, Starcatcher, on July 21, 2023.
