Demi Lovato has been open about their journey with their gender identity and how it’s something very fluid.

Now, Demi Lovato updated the pronouns on their Instagram to include she/her in addition to they/them. While she has yet to say anything about the change, fans have been quick to share screengrabs of Lovato’s account.

The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer first came out as non-binary last year and subsequently updated their pronouns to they/them. However, at the time, they realized it might take fans some time to adjust.”If you misgender me – that’s OK,” Lovato wrote on Instagram in July of 2021. “I accidentally misgender myself sometimes! It’s a huge transition to change the pronouns I’ve used for myself my entire life. And it’s difficult to remember sometimes!

“As long as you keep trying to respect my truth, and as long as I remember my truth, that shift will come naturally. I’m just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process.”

They continued: “I felt the need to post this because I often find that the change in pronouns can be confusing for some, and difficult to remember for others. It’s all about your intention. It’s important to me that you try, but if you make a mistake, it’s okay remember that I love you, and to keep going.”

Demi Anticipated A Change In The Future

In August of 2021, Lovato opened up about how there’s a possibility her gender identity could evolve. At the 19th Represents Summit, she said: Being non-binary, what that means…is that I’m so much more than the binary of man and woman. And that we are all so much more if we allow ourselves the ability to look within ourselves and challenge that binary that we’ve grown up living in.”

“I was very nervous in the beginning to come out as non-binary because I didn’t want people to think it was inauthentic,” they said.  “I just wanted people to see what coming out as non-binary meant to my healing process.”

“There might be a time where I identify as trans…there might be a time where I identify as non-binary and gender-nonconforming my entire life. Or maybe there’s a period of time when I get older that I identify as a woman.”

Some fans think she hinted that she would expand her pronouns with a recent Instagram post, “You can call me they, but I’m still daddy’s girl….”

New Music Is Coming

While they have yet to make a post about their pronouns, Lovato has been busy teasing new music. From the posts, it sounds like she’s pivoting away from pop music and wants to dive into the world of Rock’ n’ roll. They captioned a post earlier this year writing, “A funeral for my pop music.”

While she has yet to announce new music, Lovato is one of the headliners at the Rock in Rio 2022 festival in September!
