Billie Eilish is breaking records left and right! She has just become the youngest artist to win not one, but two Oscars.
At the tender age of 22, she’s already a music legend, grabbing her latest golden statue for the Best Original Song with “What Was I Made For?” from the hit Barbie movie. And guess who handed her the award? None other than the fabulous Wicked stars, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
A Night of Firsts and Fierce Competition
Billie, with her brother and music partner Finneas O’Connell by her side, outshone some pretty tough competition to clinch the title. They had to top other catchy tunes like fellow Barbie ballad “I’m Just Ken”, plus hits from big movies like Killers of the Flower Moon and American Symphony.
Barbie’s Heart Song Takes the World by Storm
The award-winning track didn’t just steal hearts at the Oscars; it soared to number one in the UK and Australia and made a significant splash in the US. Billie called it “Barbie’s heart song,” and it’s easy to see why. The song features in a touching scene where Barbie meets the spirit of her creator and witnesses the impact she’s had on girls and women worldwide.
Her performance even earned a standing ovation at The Oscars.
Billie thanked her bestie Zoe and music teachers in her emotional Oscars acceptance speech.
The Barbie Movie: A Night to Remember
The Barbie movie scored eight Oscar nods, including Best Picture and acting nominations for Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera. Critics controversially overlooked Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig for Best Actress and Director.
