Welcome Auli’i Cravalho and Adam Lambert to Cabaret!
There’s a new Sally and Emcee in town!
Today, the production announced that Auli’i Cravalho and Adam Lambert will replace Gayle Rankin and Eddie Redmayne as Sally Bowles and the Emcee.
“Growing up on the musical theater stage, it was always a childhood dream to perform on Broadway,” Lambert told Deadline.
“With this production of ‘Cabaret,’ it finally felt like the right time to accept an invitation to make my debut. The themes of this show have always resonated with me and given the current sociopolitical climate the world is in, feel eerily timely.”
Joining the American Idol singer is Cravalho, known for voicing Moana in the Disney animation and as Gretchen in the Mean Girls: The Musical movie adaptation.
“I’m looking forward to working with Auli’i to create our own magic, Lambert continued. “It is thrilling to be able to sink my teeth into this important story and collaborate with the rest of the talented artists in the cast and crew.”
Life is a Cabaret, old chum
For those unfamiliar with the production, Cabaret is a dazzling Broadway production set in 1930s Berlin during the rise of the Nazi regime. This iconic musical follows the story of the vibrant Kit Kat Klub and its star performer, Sally Bowles, who captivates audiences with her electrifying performances. As the political landscape shifts, the lives of the characters intertwine with the club’s seductive and often dark atmosphere, offering a poignant commentary on love, ambition, and the socio-political turmoil of the era. With unforgettable songs like “Willkommen,” “Maybe This Time,” and “Cabaret,” this show remains a powerful and thought-provoking theatrical experience.
