Alone in the Game documentary tackles homophobia in professional sports.
In recent years, the LGBTQ community has had some significant wins in the battle for equality. However, prejudice against LGBT people in professional sports continues to affect athletes and fans.
In the new documentary, Alone in the Game, filmmakers shine a light on LGBT discrimination in professional sports. Alone in the Game, set to air on the AT&T Audience Network in June, features interviews with openly LGBT professional athletes who discuss homophobia and anti-LGBT conduct in sports.
Basketball player Layana White was recently harassed for having a relationship with one of her teammates. White admits that she stayed in the closet in hopes of furthering her professional career. The decision to hide her sexual identity left her suicidal.

“It was a don’t ask, don’t tell environment, and that just puts you further in the closet. As an athlete, you work your whole entire life for that scholarship. I felt like the only option was to just take my life,” she reveals in the trailer.
Many other out athletes lend their voices to the documentary. Interviewees include former NBA player Jason Collins, retired soccer star Robbie Rogers, Olympic freeskier Gus Kenworthy and former NFL star Ryan O’Callaghan.
David McFarland, the executive producer on the film, told USA Today that the documentary will “expose a culture of exclusion, bigotry and discrimination” which encourages athletes to stay in the closet.
Alone In The Game will air on the AT&T Audience Network on June 28.
