Meet the Actor Playing the First Gay Male Doctor on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Instagram

After 15 seasons, Grey’s Anatomy is finally getting its first gay male doctor, and he’s a surgeon named Dr. Nico Kim. The character will be played by actor Alex Landi when the series returns to ABC on September 27.

Landi, who is half-Korean and half-Italian studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre in New York and then toured Asia studying martial arts. Although the NYC-born actor also appeared in bit roles in TV shows like Bull and Childlike, this character on Grey’s Anatomy represents his first significant role.

His recurring stint on the long-running drama will begin this Fall, but other than that, details about Nico are scant. ABC has only confirmed the casting so far, declining to provide additional information about Landi’s character or how long he’ll be operating at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Although he’s not the first queer character to appear on Grey’s Anatomy, he is the first gay male doctor at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The new season will also mark the arrival of Chris Carmack as the hospital’s new “ortho god,” and the return Jeff Perry as Meredith Grey’s father, Thatcher Grey, and of Kim Raver as Dr. Teddy Altman.

Until season 15 begins, feast your eyes on some of our favorite snaps from Landi’s Instagram!
