Kit Connor Takes Home Award, Dishes on ‘Heartstopper’ Popularity

Kit Connor explains why the Netflix series Heartstopper has audiences begging for more.

On Tuesday night, actor Kit Connor was recognized for his breakout role in the hit Netflix series, Heartstopper. The Royal Television Society Awards in London presented Connor with the leading male actor award. During his acceptance speech, the 19-year-old shared his gratitude for the Heartstopper series and reflected on the audience’s reaction to the first season.

“We knew that it was something special when we were making it, but [we] didn’t [expect] the reaction it got.”

The LGBTQ-inclusive love story is based on the comic books by Alice Oseman and follows the love story between star rugby player Nick Nelson (Connor) and the talented but quiet Charlie Spring (Joe Locke). The series currently has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 98% audience score, not to mention the raving reviews by young viewers online. As for the show’s popularity, Connor said it all comes down to human emotion.

“There’s really something for everyone [in Heartstopper] and it’s just human emotions at its simplest,” he continued.

Heartstopper is charming, inclusive, and heartwarmingly beautiful. And it’s coming back for two more seasons!

Kit Connor Shows Off in Beefy Gym Photos

This week is busy for Connor, who recently sent the internet into a frenzy by posting shirtless gym photos. Let’s just say, Connor has become a real beefcake. The bisexual actor completed a training session with Nathaniel Massiah and spoke with the gym guru about why he started training in the first place. After Netflix released the official cast list, Connor said he received messages from fans claiming he was too skinny to play Nick.

“When I got cast in Heartstopper, it’s based on a comic book, and the character that I’m based on is like 6’2, very big. And I was like shorter than I am now and skinnier.”

But fans are already eying Connor for a different comic book character. After seeing his transformation, outlets are hoping Connor will catch the attention of the MCU. He would be the perfect Hulking in the new Young Avengers!

Heartstopper season two is coming to Netflix later this year.
