Ry Rivers, a rising artist blending the soulfulness of R&B with the storytelling tradition of country music, is poised to make a significant impact on the contemporary music scene. With a sound he describes as “blue-eyed country soul,” Rivers’ authenticity and magnetic stage presence have already garnered attention, culminating in a headlining performance at the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival in June.

Rivers’ debut single, “Kiss a Cowboy,” set for release on May 30, marks his official entry into the country music genre, a style deeply ingrained in his upbringing.

Speaking with Gayety, the star mentioned, “Country music has always been at the core of who I am as an artist and vocalist,” Rivers said in an interview. Growing up in a non-musical family, he found his own voice, but his parents played a crucial role in shaping his diverse musical tastes. “Some of my earliest memories are of my brother and me riding in the back of my dad’s truck, blasting Tim McGraw or David Allan Coe on the way to the farm.” This early exposure to country, alongside soul, classic rock, jazz, and R&B, has formed the eclectic foundation of his unique sound.

“Kiss a Cowboy” represents a pivotal moment for Rivers, both a new beginning and a return to his roots. The song’s creation and the filming of its music video on his father’s farm in Okeechobee, where he spent part of his childhood, have made this project deeply personal. “I’ve never felt more connected to a project,” he said. “It’s the most honest and authentic song I’ve ever released, and I can’t wait for the world to hear it on May 30th and watch the video on June 11th!” The song’s impact has already been significant, opening doors Rivers had previously only dreamed of.

Rivers is also preparing to headline a stage at the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade and Street Festival in June, an event he holds close to his heart. “I’m beyond excited!” he exclaimed. Wilton Manors, a community where he has found significant support and connection, holds a special place for the artist. “Being a local, it’s played an influential role in shaping who I am today, so getting to give back through my music means the world.” The prospect of performing for friends, family, and familiar faces adds an extra layer of excitement to the upcoming show.

Describing his sound as “blue-eyed country soul,” Rivers aims to bridge the gap between traditional country storytelling and modern soulful vocals. He believes his music resonates with a broad audience because of its inherent honesty and authenticity. “At the end of the day, my genre is honesty and authenticity,” he stated. “I believe the best songs are the ones that come from a real place, and I think people connect with that, whether they’re country fans or not.”

In an era dominated by fast-paced trends and artificial intelligence, Rivers emphasizes the enduring power of genuine expression. “People always talk about writing music with ‘universal appeal,’ but I believe the most impactful songs are the ones that are deeply personal,” he explained. “We live in such a fast-paced, AI-driven world now, and I think raw, unfiltered authenticity will always rise to the top. If you write from the heart, people will feel it.”

Known for his vibrant stage presence and engaging performances, Rivers approaches live shows with meticulous preparation. “Rehearsal, rehearsal, rehearsal!” he emphasized. “I take my craft seriously, and I expect the same from my band.” Drawing on his background as an athlete and the work ethic instilled by his parents, Rivers is committed to delivering his best at every performance. “That mentality drives me as a performer – I want every show to be the best one yet.”

For audiences attending his live shows, including Stonewall Pride, Rivers aims to create an environment of connection and escape. “When I step on stage, I don’t take it for granted,” he said. “I want my shows to be a place where people can let loose, feel seen, and escape reality for a little while.” Beyond the entertainment, Rivers hopes to connect with his audience on a personal level. “If I can make one person feel understood and like they aren’t alone, then I’ve done my job.”

Reflecting on the evolution of the country music scene, Rivers sees himself contributing a fresh, soulful perspective rooted in genuine storytelling. “I think I bring a soulful, fresh perspective to country music – rooted in authenticity, storytelling, and a deep love for the genre,” he said. Coming from outside the traditional Nashville framework allows him the creative freedom to blend diverse influences into his sound.

Rivers acknowledges the increasingly global reach of country music and the breaking down of genre boundaries. “I love how country has become a global genre, with artists breaking boundaries and reaching new audiences,” he noted. While embracing this evolution, he remains committed to honoring the genre’s foundational elements, particularly its emphasis on narrative.

Looking ahead, Rivers has clear aspirations for his music career. “My goal has always been simple: to make a living doing what I love, take care of my family and friends, and connect with people through my music,” he shared. More specifically, he aims for chart-topping success, a Grammy for Best New Artist, a world tour, and a lasting career.

Ry Rivers embodies a compelling fusion of soul and southern grit, positioning him as a unique voice in contemporary country music. His ability to blend raw authenticity with magnetic energy, coupled with his commitment to unity and connection in his performances, suggests a promising future for this dynamic artist. His modern twist on country music has the potential to resonate with audiences far beyond traditional genre lines.
