Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are set to reprise their roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz.
Get ready to revisit the glitzy world of politics and royal charm with the upcoming sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue. After dazzling viewers last summer, the romantic escapade returns, promising more sparks and witty banter between America’s First Son and a dashing British prince.
A Royal Reunion
At a panel held at the Culver Theater, director Matthew López excitedly confirmed the development of a sequel to Red, White & Royal Blue.
“Yes, there’s gonna be a sequel,” López declared, responding to inquiries about a second installment.
Echoing López’s announcement, author Casey McQuiston added, “There’s going to be a sequel to the film. Matthew and I are writing it together. And that’s all we can say!”
Star-Studded Return
Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are back in their royal roles as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz. These two didn’t just play their parts; they owned them! As the plot thickens in the sequel, expect more charming chaos from our favorite cross-pond duo.
Since the release of the first film, fans have not been timid about sharing their want for a sequel. In an exclusive interview with Gayety last year, López expressed his delight and concern over the strong reaction.
“I feel great. I mean, it’s a wonderful problem to have that people just want more and more and more.
“There was a little period of time when I was like, ‘oh no, they don’t think my movie is sufficient,’” said López. “‘They don’t think it’s enough’. And I went, I’m an artist, and so there was a moment I was like, ‘they don’t like my movie.’ And then it took friends going, ‘you idiot. They love your movie and they love it so much. They want more.’
Behind the Scenes Magic
The original team that brought you the first film’s splendor hasn’t gone far. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Schechter Films are back to weave their producing magic. They’re not alone; joining them are the skilled Michael McGrath and the visionary Matthew López, who’s not only producing but also penning the script. Casey McQuiston, the mastermind behind the novel, steps in as the executive producer, ensuring the sequel stays true to its roots.
Plot Under Lock and Key
What’s a royal affair without a bit of mystery? Amazon MGM Studios is tight-lipped about the sequel’s plot, but that just adds to the allure. While we don’t have the juicy details or a release date yet, the anticipation is part of the fun. Will Alex and Henry’s romance continue to bloom, or will royal duties and political drama pull them apart? You’ll have to wait to find out!
Why We Can’t Wait
From unexpected friendships to whirlwind romances, the first film gave us a delightful blend of humor and heart. The sequel promises to elevate this enchanting narrative, exploring deeper themes and perhaps introducing new characters to root for (or against!).
