After years of speculation and swooning from fans, Lucy Dacus has finally confirmed what we all hoped was true—she and her Boygenius bandmate, Julien Baker, are officially a couple!
In a new interview with The New Yorker, Dacus casually dropped the news that she and Baker are “in a committed relationship.” While the two have never been shy about their deep affection for each other, they’ve kept things private—until now. And honestly? It’s giving soft launch no more.
Love Songs and Boygenius Canon
Dacus’ upcoming album, Forever Is a Feeling, is already being called “a gorgeous and tender album about falling in love.” And if you’ve followed the Boygenius lore, it’s not exactly a mystery who inspired it. One track, Most Wanted Man, features the lyric, “most wanted man in West Tennessee”—which, in case you missed it, is where Baker is from. We love a geographically specific love letter.
When asked about putting such personal songs into the world, Dacus admitted it’s been “interesting, because I want to protect what is precious in my life, but also to be honest, and make art that’s true.” She added, “These songs are about different people. But, you know, Most Wanted Man in West Tennessee—what are you gonna do?”

From Bandmates to Soulmates
Beyond their romance, Dacus also shared an adorable anecdote about how their Boygenius bestie, Phoebe Bridgers, has been the ultimate third-wheel-in-a-good-way. While strolling through the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens for the interview, Dacus revealed that she and Baker have memberships—courtesy of Bridgers, who gifted them as a birthday present.
“Last time, we brought a blanket and snacks and our books, and lay in the garden for, like, two hours, just napping and reading,” she said. Sapphic domesticity? We love to see it.

Boygenius May Be on Hiatus, but the Love Lives On
Even though Boygenius announced an indefinite hiatus earlier this year, the bond between the trio remains as strong as ever. And now that Dacus and Baker are ready to share their love story, it’s clear that the Boygenius universe is still expanding—just in new, swoon-worthy ways.
So, if you need us, we’ll be here listening to “Talk” from Forever Is a Feeling until March 28.
