On Monday night, celebrities gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the annual Met Gala, a charity event that raises money for the museum’s Costume Institute. This year’s theme was “in honor of Karl,” a tribute to the legacy of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld.

While it was truly a night of fashion for everyone who attended, in our humble opinion, these LGBTQ+ celebs stole the show on the legendary red carpet. Scroll to see what everyone wore.

What Does the Met Gala Theme Mean?

The German designer worked with several top fashion houses. He became the creative director at Chanel in 1983 and held the position until he died in 2019. Though he is known for revitalizing fashion in the 20th and 21st centuries, it is worth noting that he also made horridly fatphobic, racist, and misogynistic comments during his lifetime. Because of this, some outlets and celebrities chose not to engage with the Met Gala this year. Additionally, some Twitter users have pointed out several stars who may have worn pink in protest of the theme (Karl Lagerfeld reportedly HATED pink).
